Lighthouse’s Response to the Coronavirus

A Special Lighthouse Weekly

Dear Lighthouse family,

The world has witnessed the spread of the coronavirus in over 70 countries, including the United States. The virus has now come to Los Angeles. The elders and pastoral staff are actively discussing how the coronavirus will impact Lighthouse and our ministries, as well as what preventative steps we need to take to best safeguard our church family. Part of the responsibility of shepherding is caring for the whole person, which means not only caring for our members’ spiritual well-being, but their physical well-being.

Task Force
To help navigate this challenging issue, Lighthouse has created a Task Force comprised of medical professionals who are currently working on the frontlines of engaging the virus. This team will be led by Pastor/Dr. Jason Ho. The team has access to the most current data and recommendations from the medical community.

Recommendations
Based on current information, Lighthouse will continue to hold regular worship services, children’s ministry, fellowship groups, and small groups. Please note that the spread of this virus is a fluid situation, and the Task Force may make updated recommendations in the future, which may include temporarily not meeting for services or other large group ministries.

While we are currently continuing our regular meetings as a church, here are our recommendations:

  • Stay home if you are sick (high temperature, body ache, sore throat, etc.). The cry rooms, Fellowship Hall, and foyer are not to be used as alternate waiting areas for sick adults or children.
  • If you or your child is showing signs of sickness at a church gathering, you will be asked to go home
  • If you’ve traveled to a country listed on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Risk Assessment (China, Iran, South Korea, Italy, Japan), wait for 14 days before rejoining church gatherings
  • Wash your hands frequently and use the hand sanitizer stations throughout the church
  • Greet and welcome one another with words, not handshakes or hugs

Two Encouragements

Love Others
One of the ways we can love one another is to not unknowingly spread the coronavirus or other diseases within our church community. This means that you would refrain from attending church gatherings if you believe you may be sick. The elders appreciate how challenging this is, given that the members of this church take seriously the gathering of the saints to worship our Savior. However, we ask that you sacrifice your attendance if you are sick out of love for the church family and a desire for their physical well-being.

Live by Faith, Not Fear
Remember that our faith is in the powerful and sovereign God of the Bible. He is the God who holds all the billions of galaxies in His hand, and He also knows every virus and germ on this earth. Let us remember to be a people who prepare and take precautions, but ultimately let us shine brightly as we place our faith in God. To paraphrase Psalm 20:7, some trust in N95 masks and some in hand sanitizer, but we trust in the name of the LORD our God.
“For I know that the LORD is great, and that our Lord is above all gods. Whatever the LORD pleases, he does, in heaven and on earth, who makes lightnings for the rain and brings forth the wind from his storehouses.”
Psalm 135:5-7
