Episode 188: Youth Pastor Pet Peeves | For The Church
welcome to the for the Church podcast another great Gospel Center resource from Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary my name is Jarrod Wilson I’m an assistant professor of pastoral Ministry and author in Residence at Midwestern Seminary and I’m here I was always with my friend my fellow church member co-host academic advisor not my academic advisor but we’re back again I feel like it’s been a long time since we’ve been in this room for five episodes at once and they were like a see you in a couple months or whatever it is I just saw you yesterday we had lunch yesterday I had no idea it’s been a while and you know is good that the last one that we recorded that we forgot about actually comes out today the day that we’re recording this is how not to be a jerk and I was glad to share this morning wouldn’t publish because last night man and some people just went on a tear they were being real jerk block like four people this more I woke up this morning and my Bible time I looked at my social media mentions a man I was like man black guy black this guy looked and I thought I’m not to be a jerk actually fits you know what’s really funny is I listen to it on the way to the to the room today in patient with me about halfway through the podcast yeah we’re on the timer okay. I feel like I I kind of portrayed the behavior in the first half that we’re trying to avoid you have to go back in and listen to it myself to see if maybe I was being a jerk in the middle of the of the jerk epic name and how was your Thanksgiving well where we went to Arkansas and we spend some time one of our friends family that you happen to be Mexicans are Thanksgiving was Mexicans Americans and Scottish people like you said that to me maybe doesn’t seem like the right mix but hey we make it work so much family of the Mexican Thanksgiving in Arkansas crazy I assume this is what happens when we went and traveled at that traveling the car with my girls man I need to pray for patience during trial because some of us can go from one destination to another without needing to stop 500 time right I’ll need to stop every 10 minutes and I am the bad guy because I’m like no we haven’t done 10 miles yet you know or not stuffing is giving would basically be telling my children no I’m not stopping this car again did you not have long travels calling every drive is not really that you can go from east to west coast like literally from the beach Coast in 2 hours you can go from Edinborough to London which for those who don’t know the map glitch Lee from the middle of one country to the bottom of the other country in 5 hours so the idea of doing 5 hours and all you see is filled I’m here today we did we did the Kansas City all the way up to the top of North Dakota all the way back through and South Dakota leave at Kansas City and I think you know each way of something like 15 hours each way and there was a point I think we have Juvederm for my baby to my wife and just said we could die at the end no one would know there are portions of the Midwest driving from here to check the middle of Kansas would have done a few times it feels like you’re driving across Mars their fortunes Presley what you get into like 35 45 minutes into Kansas Pastor Kansas it just feels like and I was just traveling with one of your fellow Ministry residents to Kansas this last weekend Travis and Travis God bless him in the middle of it Travis goes I so beautiful out here looks like we’re on the moon beautiful but there’s no trees there’s no is not like mountains or what do you mean Brown I mean it’s the middle of November either so I’m crazy but you do have a few as you can drive in a straight line and I actually joke about in the car is like here comes the curve this is the first curve Racine and 200 miles where we’re at like we used to drive Sterling to Hollins Road in Scotland which is maybe a 45-minute journey and if it was a straight line every 10 minutes are kids tend to get car sick so when we used to go to church it was very much one of those things off three changes of clothes I’ll go get desserts and ever be like hey it’s lovely to see you. Yeah just like he’s from upstate New York which is beautiful and fashion in Vermont which is beautiful so I mean I guess this is different to places I’ve never been okay I don’t think you can catch having New York Pizza in the airport at midnight as being in New York I went back I think I sometimes count that I’ve been to was, I can’t how many states I’ve been to I can’t Wisconsin because I flew through Milwaukee wants to know I don’t even think I left the airport in my mom doesn’t realize you’ve got to step side of the airport the airport she’s actually been to some states where she’s driven through and she just got to the car if it fell on the ground right into that states how many should just be want to see you tonight unless you spent the right there and I think we can spend the night in there for it but what’s the date like what if I got there in the morning and spent the whole day having fun and I saw the sights and then I left before the evening you saying that I can’t count it and what you do with tight Scotsman who refused to pay for staying overnight like I’m going to pay for a night just to make me say I’ve got one more state I’m not there I think we’re going back to the previous episode about to be a jerk but you know it’s kind of a pet fee for you Perhaps it is a pet peeve while you’re doing I’m trying my best you know we’ve talked previously about Pastor pet peeves or preacher Pepe’s when we’ve talked about worship leader Pepe’s I thought because we had a few questions submitted for some of the for the Church podcast mailbag related the students yet. Why don’t you sort of a bunch up the topic together and do youth Minister pet peeves as really funny cuz we were just talking for the show and I said I said to you you always say there’s like two or three things on the top of my head but I didn’t really like writing them down and you said I have nine so you have a list of Fairly they were going to be working I have a list I’m sure there’s some things that were on your list that are the things that I’m thinking of Youth Minister Pepe’s since you have such an extensive array of grievances against ministers were student Ministry why don’t you start what’s your number one pet peeve I am going to apologize in advance on how I’m going to be my first one is like an overarching one which is behaving like a complete and utter fool just to feel cool before the teenagers you got a real problem with that why you why you trying to act cool might my main issue is that is not acting cool it’s actually just like acting like a complete and utter idiot and Jacob stupid things and that makes you cool from the teachers because you know it’s like you break the rules of the church and you’re willing to do things are a little bit edgy and all the parents are just going like is treating the role as trying to be the cool funky guy rather than actual understanding what a pastor has led Let’s ignore the age range is Pastor senior pastor whatever if you’re at a pastor or Minister you’re not meant to be known for acting the fool so when I was a kid probably owe sixth grade maybe we had in our church Summit call disciple now which is kind of common in southern baptist circles over here and it’s busy like a weekend conference weekend for you things when you bringing the other youth pastors sometimes our other leaders who will host people different homes and in any event our home was a host home for the seniors or whatever lies within you so I’m a hit you know 6th grader I’m looking up to all these kids they’re staying in our house there’s a youth pastor from out of town who’s the one who stand in our house and then you all get together and we get to go I thought it was so nice I got to go to the disciple now event when they were all together and the youth pastors are all up together and they’re doing a thing and they did this thing where one of them took their shirt off with first of all no yeah I know the secondly it gets worse if you think that’s bad they put peanut butter in his armpit which is another know and then another youth pastor took a piece of bread and smeared it in the other guys armpit and then ate the bread and everyone was grossed out in that in that sort of thing and then they also what they picked each other’s nose and ate it the 8th what was in each other and I remember sitting there going to be a youth pastor seems like the coolest thing in the world because I was an eleven-year-old boy even just talking about this I’m like I’m struggling not to go back to the previous episode of find out to be a jerk I was just like to know what is a taste is just a wee overemphasis of trying to be fun and cool and I’m trying to get the attention of teenagers I just not realizing like you have. off the cliff off of more age appropriate this is sort of accident on my mental list but aging youth pastor was just fine in fact in a lot of respect I think the old are you how’s your tummy better cuz they don’t act like a fool very often but the older the Asian youth pastor who’s trying to look yet cool that’s the kind of acting cool part and I don’t know that I don’t necessarily like we outrageous gross-out stuff I think by a large youth pastors today do that unless some of the ones like when I was a kid I’m sure I know it’s still out there but when I think of like to the Chubby Bunny games were you stuck in your head just all this or that writers thing I know there’s guys are still doing that but I don’t think it’s as widespread as it was but the Asian guy who still trying to look younger is hairstyle his clothes you know what why are you waving your hand at me I have on a plaid shirt and a grey coat am I trying to look at this particular way no comment whatever they’re trying to look like Kanye or so maybe I don’t know what the deal is I know exactly what was in the actual youth pastor but was very much spearheading the Canadian the ministry and again we put on youth activities and then stand up the side the whole time just watching kind of additive to old to be involved in those activities and it just kind of felt like your granddad was standing at the site kind of just staring at you. it’s not that the Aging element is is wrong and I agree with you I think it brings a maturity to it I think there is a way that you can join in there is a way that you can be active with teenagers in Ministry without acting a complete fool without seeming disengage that kind of speak to my second with also are being overly serious as well there’s a is a fine balance between all of these music on the first one it’s not about not having fun or being always serious about not being foolish yet not being overly sore alien and immature and in fact we would expect out of student ministers whether your pastor in that shirt or an elder in that church or not there’s an aspiration in for that and therefore you should be doing maturity and leading in a mature way inside an example from attorney but now your second idea is the over serious yes it does tend to come with the slightly older guys on again I’ve kind of got something in mind more towards you can a 30 Ortiz and I just again overly overly serious every study was heavy and very little fun very much like if you want to be you know a Godly Man and godly women in future you must get this now and you must study every day and just overly serious was kind of just trains younger people to feel that faith is robotic if I do the steps and I and I’m serious about these things then then I’ll mean something to go to Kenneth rip site the element of gospel centrality Smith legalism as a twelve-year-old it’s just too serious and again this is over at 10 to be a slightly older youth pastor this trying to make the ministry even more serious more meaningful trying to do something different but the opposite of The Fearless young young one yeah there’s a bird in there but you know I think well maybe I should say this cuz at the end we’re going to do what we like these do this reduced I’ll save how to say 4 for that moment okay what’s number 3 on your list being disorganized because youth ministry is Chill Chick-fil-A my sight the realities of your just organize your you’re rarely chill actually we’re going tomorrow or we can do it cost you 100 like it’s just it is being disorganized and kind of using this is kind of like that isn’t it it’s actually know which organized you should have parents know where their children are going to be will their children going to be doing to be disorganized is it basically to disrespect the fact that you are caring for someone’s children in that moment man you can tell that it has the feel of coming from experience and Subway little bit of the youth pastors office and it’s falling apart things that you know everywhere and you know it’s just like having a grown up kid or having another kid kind of running the kids which is in some respects necessary necessary but it’s understandable that this isn’t some ways an entry-level Ministry job and yeah we’re giving the most vulnerable members of our congregation to least developed at least amateur entry-level you almost want to say that this is a recipe for disaster this is a guy who was just a kid himself and we’re putting him in charge of the kids kind of weird you just touched on another Pappy for me because you said that being a stepping stone they do it’s like an entry-level and you know he might have aspiration you I asked to have a bit of an issue with that I think that we hire youth pastors with a mindset that they’ll do this for a. Of time and then they will graduate to assistant pastor associate pastor you do not going to name any names with it being an assembly contacts quite a lot guys I speak to Google you know I’m 24 25 26 yeah, really get the pasteurization I’ll do you use the ministry in the church and and then I’ll can I graduate from now and I kind of bugs me because it means you’re going into youth ministry thinking how you get out of it and if you’re called to youth ministry then do you use Ministry and if you’re not don’t do it it’s kind of one of those things like so I was an associate pastor and a church am I started as the associate pastor Ken of overtime by Nature’s rules developing a kind of moved more to associate pastor for students and after a year of doing that I left because I’m not called to that subset Ministry on his own and a half years early morning going like 25 no one’s going to look at me at set system to associate whatever all. I’ll just use it for a couple years now get me some experience don’t use the church’s teenagers for your resume padding out do not like to use Ministry cuz you’re called that you might end up becoming a pastor from that in terms of associate assistant senior whatever when does trupanion right I mean even if like you know the rules that are available to you are limited and you can see I don’t know that I want to be called to this long-term you should still go in and be all in exactly you should still pursue the Lord called to that devil and and not begrudge the sense of like of this is just a transition and treat it as if it’s your transient read the people as if they’re stepping stone you should be all in while you’re there I think that’s true for any but the reality is for young man in particular there aren’t a lot of roles available to them if they want to get Ministry experience and and they don’t want to wait to have been some ways to be easily rolled over saying is if you’re going to do that you should really commit to that I am what you can out of it being treated like real Ministry and not training wheels it’s the guys that day like I’m doing youth ministry all but I’m trying to get preaching on Sundays I’ve been asking for these sermons I’ve been I’ve been trying to do this and I’m gone other project hang on signs that you don’t want to do this ministry and you’re trying to find a way off I’ve got my title now I need to figure out how to get the next one like if if you’re saying you don’t make speeches and you won’t experience in the church doing juices is a good way of getting experience but it should just be by getting experience because you have a genuine heart for the age range and you believe that the Lord is placing you there I don’t believe okay I might be overstepping their but I don’t believe that God is just going to go get let me use why people for your stepping stone so that you can get somewhere you want I don’t think that’s how God would want us to treat his people for sure for sure you know some of the best youth pastors that I’ve known and you probably as well are those who have been into misery for a long time and field called to it yes and in some ways you with my would expect they have aged out or the culture would expect of aged out of that shouldn’t you be an associate pastor a senior pastor by now I mean there’s a couple another my age are you in a little bit older to Ben and stood minutes for your family Ministries for you know for their entire Ministry career so to speak and they’re really anomalies but that’s where their heart is and is to help young adults to help families feel that’s what God has wired them to do and then and God bless on my guess we should pray for more of those answer the phone you just rolled into another technique treats youth pastors and Benny Benny mentioned that there aren’t you shouldn’t you be getting your pastor now. I think the church Baldi and tends to treat you as one thanks for coming in will see you go in two years because we kind of know that you should be an associate pastor so you know will give you this year old get some experience and then go again almost to use master of seeing a stepping stone to church sees as a stepping stone and kind of expects then I think we can all fit in treat our youth pastors like little kids as well at a funeral and again this please a little bit until you find yourself have the right Behavior but we kind of expect our youth pastors to be a little bit foolish be kind of expect them to be a little bit childish we kind of treating them a little bit childish you know it members meetings over here comes the youth pastors are these going on you know like he’s got a jar of peanut butter yeah I mean that just sounds horrible but I’m sorry it was horrible but as an 11 year old boy I just you know my eyes were wide man and I think that’s the thing is that our church behind if I want to say I’m so we can have expected so we don’t activate a level of seriousness that that you’ve mastered should have but one of the things that that I wrote. I’m just kind of on this subject is that really Aaron not seeing that our youth pastor job is in fact a job that it needs be fulfilled and they just see it more as child care like I can throw my kids into a Friday night music Club Eugenio get childcare we’re actually the youth pastor is trying to do job he’s trying to fill a role for the church and he isn’t just your child care of tails with one of my list so the idea of student ministry as a kind of babysitting or entertainment so you that’s on the parental or are you in the church expectation or even the student expectation but I guess the corollary to that is one of my pet peeves with the wasted Ministries often done and evangelicalism is this kind of siloing them away from the church in The Wider body and if we are staring down at last toll was 70% dropout rate in the states at least of students who leave the church after The Graduate High School go to college kind of young adult age we have to think about how do we win our students to the life of the church what we have done for 30-40 years is Windham to youth group agree and then once youth group is over while there’s nothing for me right churches for the moms and dads him so the good news is all of them come back they know from the data like they’ll come back once they have families a great number of them don’t come back at all but when they do it’s I have families and they perceived in this cat. It’s not for me this is my time to explore and you know create a friend family and I’m focusing on College in my career whatever it is and some of that is because discipled them into the life of a youth group and not into life of the church so that kind of silo effect we do everything all by ourselves we have a separate worship service we have our events we don’t mingle with grown up church or big church or whatever you call it a night that’s a disaster it’s a pet peeve of mine do you know we actually do that with every generation that I didn’t think about it we didn’t Ministry we have the 20s 30s we have the families we have the seniors like if I can put it as bluntly as we need to ditch all of those titles church family 0 to 100 if you can’t deal with a kid crying and a service or teenager saying bike I don’t really understand this basic concept of creation or senior saying like this is way over my head I really just am looking forward to seeing Jesus I guess you can’t have that in one service inappropriately dividing the church I’m a big believer in a 0 to 100 Church that’s it we’re one big family new age range it’s just we’re all there together my pet peeve is get rid of me wow all right well there’s some people seem to think a lot of family in the greater Ministry and that’s when I was a church planter and I had only young adults I mean literally I was I was probably the oldest person in the church and I was in my early thirties but it was all our maybe mid-thirties it was all it was all young people and we had small groups of course and it was a small church so we didn’t have a whole lot of small groups and we didn’t have this microphone all that big but we had a few to folks you were married and I remember one of those couples coming to me saying we would really like a married small group because we have anything in common with single folks and I just blew my mind I just thought you’re the same age as it’s not even like they’re saying we’re 50 something years old and even that we should be experiencing the multi-generation ality of the church that crisis form but to be you know 28 and married and think that separates you so significantly from a 26 year old single person in the church we always have something in common that being her facing a crisis but anyway where are The Silo in effect is is a huge pet peeve of mine I’ll give you another one of my pet peeves I don’t know if this is on your list another one of mine is when the youth minister is somewhat passive aggressive about parents okay yeah I’m heading kids against parents yet not in not in intentional way but always sort of making comments like I know you know your parents don’t understand you or you know a little dig little things like that that just suddenly sort of what they’re trying to do I think being charitable what they’re trying to do is be empathetic and sympathetic to the concerns of of students who excel in very often feel like their parents don’t understand them or don’t get them they’re just issued at home in the industry minister is trying to acknowledge that or at least me search students who feel that way but when you just sort of reinforce that do you know divorce or that damn thing into that separation of that tension you really not siding with pants are you not supporting the name of the family your your kind of fueling more more grease. So you should be on the on the side of the students and the parents agree this again he said that he talked about honoring parents sent him what that looks like and then he said just one kind of a phrase you know it but you also don’t honor your parents in so that I was just a little throwaway phrase and one of the teenagers in his group went home has parents were frustrated with him because of some grade school a little bit shirty and said Teenager just when you’re sitting in your anger and I will not honor you and I’m kind of on those things of you have to be really careful how you bring parents into this conversation yeah I’m a parent of three and one of my pet peeves is actually kind of similar to the sense that when my kids are in kids ministry or when they can I grow up into using student Ministry if it still exists as if your kids do not go to my children or I use Pastor what kind of all working together here you know God has given roles for our children and how they should live their lives as they use Pastor is trying to help them with that and an ultimately we’re trying to raise them like that so we kind of need to be working together not against each other in a sense of family ministry you know whether you go the family integrated router not employ if your student Ministry I know I personally think that’s necessary in every contact but certainly stood ministers who want to come alongside parents and you’re not the replacement discipleship for you know for these children your a resource of the family every sort of the church to Aid in their discipleship so how can you be an ally of parents and and then come alongside them and that I think speaks to parents as well how can you support the youth Minister because there’s so many situations where parents are expecting the youth minister to just be a glorified babysitter or to be some kind of Entertainer and their disgruntled if the students are disappointed cuz they’re there wasn’t enough fun or something like that rather than immediately have an agreement with the suit Minister begin to think well do you know let me understand what the approach to Mastery is and maybe it shouldn’t just be Recreation time and knows where things are trying to kind of bridge the gap between Christian parents in and student Ministry I think is is helpful you got another another one that you’re interested in the youth then you’re not engaging with them on Sundays when you see them either buy or you don’t talk to them when you see them it’s like you’re a one-night youth pastor and I cited that teenagers get away I don’t want to talk to you so I kind of distant an engagement and then a disengagement and again it kind of comes back to a little bit how you view youth ministry is a stepping stone you don’t get heavily involved in people’s lives because you’re kind of concentrating on the next thing that you want to do what if you’re doing the role before you and I’m going to bring this kind of second issue here at the same time and then calling yourself a youth pastor and families Pastor because you’re really looking at that the teenager the child that is true and their family and had their all engaging together so you know it you know yes you got maybe you Sunday school but what is what are those youths going through during the week what exams do they have could you send a package to the family’s door off you know hear some exam stress-busting chocolate or something like that it’s just engaging on on a larger level and really well but we’re not on to the good things yet on the pet fees I seen this town really badly were genuinely I’ve seen and youth workers completely disengaged with with the teenagers during a church service kind of along the lines of stop bugging me you’re you’re my job you’re not my calling and I think that’s the last of a pet peeve and more just a horrible way to treat children in your tournament son relational it’s it’s on pastoral what will resign as we would love to see the student Pastor be a pastor and not just the spokesperson or happy the you know the MC or the host of the event or the event organizer but actually Shepherd is actually Pastor folks yeah that’s good my last one last one I’m far too much food for too much booty go if that’s okay. van and pile the food in the Maze of the youth 20 to 25 pieces for 25 kids have ice cream Scoops like I get that you want to love on the kids I get that you want to be like cool fun to Sears at Kula diamond with high much food you’re giving them are they use that I feel like this also comes from someplace of yesterday because I also don’t don’t be stingy come back from some things and be like I’m really hungry on the flip side if my kids are looking green as they’re coming out from the amount of food they packed. Maybe there’s a gluttonous issue you know that that is in my own high so but I feel like that’s only usually a standard and youth youth ministry has never occurred to me I mean the presence of food certainly has we’re going to have to get a man with pizza or we’re going to have a pizza party here usually Pizza order to order into to stack up and everything up but I think like this too much you’re giving people too much food I was about to suggest that you go and visit some music is always been like I don’t know if you have the same do you have that freezing a Tux Shop no no job is like your little candy store that you going to have by the end of your Youth Event you can bring like a dollar and you can why do you like a snack bar and the kids are coming tomorrow or not tonight Ohio side pizza and ice cream tonight you like okay I see what’s happening now don’t get me wrong I’m a massive fan of pizza okay I love milkshakes I love ice cream I love candy so these are not kind of I’m not there and the Beast has a specific actually it is I have an issue with which food is placed into youth ministry as a fan that has to be there to again he satisfies the mouths of the hungry and teenage boys are voracious eaters I don’t use Ministry Dental too much 34 minutes give or take on on pet peeves what are some things you like that you stood ministers do or what do you like to see I love to see you sponsor celebrate the youth in the church okay so when something is going well in their lives and you know they passed an exam or you know they just do their drivers license and I love to see that celebration both privately and publicly so if you are genuinely serving the family not just that not just the teenager and then then you’re going to sell that with them so I’ve I’ve seen you bastards be invited to a kind of pizza night or whatever celebrating that you know that the child is just go all their grades and they’re heading off to college and I’ve seen engagement because they celebrate it but I think also out of church members meeting or our church service or whatever like literally saying hey can you know Jewel and Bill and Jenny can you all signed up because you just on your exams and you pass them all church that celebrates are you I love to see that I love to and to see you faster just enjoying the fact that the next generation is going through a really tough society and they’re still trying to to honor God as they go through that I think the ones that celebrate now and I’m really celebrate with the family and with the church in that it’s just such a wonderful feeling when that part of the church that’s great you know there’s there’s two things I think that student ministers should do as a the minimum we can do more than this but the two things I think that are often missing is clear Bible teaching consistent Bible teaching that you’re not just throwing out topic so to speak and you’re certainly not too sore to do any vague kind of spiritual Ted Talk 10 things but you’re actually teaching the Bible and showing students the the significance of God’s word that the sufficiency of God’s word consistent Bible teaching to win them to the word of God and in to help them see word of God is is sustenance for them now not just this is going to religion stuff and then the second thing is a relational discipleship him that they’re connected relationally so it’s not just event-driven it’s not just the the youth group experienced but they’re as much as possible discipled cared for and then we talked a little bit about sort of the shepherding angle obviously depending on the size of the youth group the students or may not be able to do this for everybody so it becomes important the kind of volunteers you bring in are they just sort of glorified being a babysitter times or are they the kind of volunteers other leaders who care for students as well you have a heart that I just warm bodies being are there other other families in the one concern I have because I I do think the emphasis on family ministry and and family integration in that sense is important but students tree seems to be an open door for very often for lost kids bring their friends and if you’re going to blow up your student Ministry this is a major problem I have a date yet blown up student Ministry because I wish you just have if your family immigrated stuff is to say clothes is off an opportunity or Avenue that’s up to the usually at you some of the Prime Avenue for lost people to come into your church and experiencing to hear the gospel are there Christian families that you can employ in the discipleship culture of your student Ministry where the lost kids can have access do a home on a regular basis where they see a Godly family in and there’s a warmth in and we’re involved when they can hear the gospel we have to be mindful of believing kids you can come into the orbit in ways that many of you know very often believe that adults don’t come into the main service or they do this on their own kind of thing is so the relational discipleship consistent Bible teaching church that’s kind of gravy and it’s going to have fun gifts I think I’m going to have food just don’t have too much for your eyes it’s okay have food those sorts of things that avoiding the over seriousness that you’re talking about but you know the Cosenza Bible teaching and relational discipleship really I mean I’ve seen that for my own kids the most important facet for them now as young adults I’ve seen it from their previous student shakespearience was just having access to slightly older Believers in the church who serve Lord seriously and set examples for them and cared for them reached out to them connected with the relationally did one of them to the church and not just to kind of a youth group E experience is we’re talking a lot about what the youth pastor does not about who the youth pastor is and I would say that if you’re listening in your youth pastor you need to be the example of what it means to love Jesus what it means for your whole life to be directed by Jesus where you going to go to college Maybe your post College what we plan to do is a role like are you showing are you still coming cuz ultimate ladies tend not to listen to their parents you know that they were they’re not looking to their parents as the example they’re looking to the twenties or early thirties for the example are you being not example that a teenager this lost our teenager this confused can look angle I see gospel stability I understand now what this means I see what it means to date and pursued you know our relationship I understand because I’m looking at my youth pastor and I can imitate Christ because of the way he behaves or because of the way the ministry volunteers behaves so I would say it as much as you’re trying to find cool events be involved in your own personal face of developing your Bible knowledge your prayer life are you living at your example because actually if you’re used nights are not you know 101 games and all the food and everything but you’re producing teenagers that can leave and you know their own weddings are their own Ministry rolls are going to the mission field turn back and see the reason I’m doing this is because I looked at that use faster and I just saw the gospel like that is I think
